Mindfulness opens the door to awareness. Awareness creates opportunities for change.
What is restorative yoga?Restorative yoga is a gentle practice, accessible to all body types, ages, and health conditions. In this practice we use a number of yoga props (blocks, bolsters, blankets, straps, etc.) to support the body in asanas. Instead of telling ourselves to relax (which in itself can create anxiety), we are creating a safe environment in the room and in our bodies for the nervous system to soften and let go. Restorative yoga practice is an invitation for the parasympathetic nervous system to take over, allowing the body to heal and restore, rest and re-energize.

Is restorative yoga for me? |
The three main principles of restorative yoga are:
A restorative yoga practice bridges the physical and emotional body which we so often disconnect in order to “keep pushing through” and provides time for both to co-regulate, relax and rest. |

FAQ
1. What do I need to bring to class? What should I wear?
- All the props are provided but you can bring your favorite pair of socks, a soft scarf or hoody. Anything that gives you a sense of coziness. Please wear loose and comfy clothes. Leggings and sports clothes are not needed. Remember - it’s all about being comfortable.
2. I have never done yoga in my life. Can I still come to this class?
- ABSOLUTELY! This is not your usual asana practice class. Even though at times I might incorporate some very gentle movements, restorative yoga is all about stillness. There is no stretching of any kind. Just comfort.
3. Is this a meditation class?
- There will be some guided relaxation involved that could be considered meditation, but this is not a meditation session. I like to describe it more as active rest. It’s like your body is relaxing while the mind is watching.
4. Can I do this at home?
- YES! You can learn the main principles and then do this practice in your home. If this is what you would like to do, please let me know so I can provide you with tips and home adaptation ideas.
5. Is there music, candles or scents involved?
- All of this is optional. Restorative yoga is about warmth, silence and darkness. HOWEVER, if music or a certain scent helps you relax, I am happy to accommodate. Please let me know if you have any preferences! You can even bring your own favorite little things from home.
